Some Lesser Known Facts About Kaniha

• Kaniha was raised by her parents in a middle-class South-Indian family.

  

• Kaniha was always interested in performing arts since her childhood and she used to sing and participate in pop music and light music shows.

• In 2001, she was scheduled to perform at the Miss Chennai beauty pageant and all of a sudden she was selected to participate in the pageant after a model had backed out at the last minute. Despite a lack of any modelling experience, Kaniha ended up winning the beauty pageant title.

  

• After winning the beauty title, she started getting many film offers.

• Indian filmmaker Susi Ganesan spotted Kaniha on a magazine cover page and insisted on her performing as the lead female character in his second feature film. She eventually entered the Film industry and accepted the offer but her name was changed to Kaniha for her first Tamil film titled ‘5 Star’ (2002).

• Kaniha completed the entire film ‘5 Star’ (2002) during her summer holidays as she was a student at that time.

• In 2002, Kaniha also sang the Tamil song titled ‘Engalukku’ in the debut Tamil film titled ‘5 Star.’

• Even before she finished her graduation, she completed her Telugu debut film ‘Ottesi Cheputunna’ (2003) during her winter vacations in which she acted under another stage name ‘Sravanthi.’

• Kaniha decided to focus on her studies and complete her graduation which made her turn down all the film offers including films offered to her by the directors like S. Shankar and P. C. Sreeram.

• After completing her graduation, in 2004, Kaniha was cast in the Tamil romantic drama film titled ‘Autograph’ in which she made a special appearance as the character named ‘Thenmozhi.’

  

• In 2005, she dubbed her voice for the actress Genelia D’Souza for the Tamil romantic comedy film titled ‘Sachein.’

  

• In the same year, she dubbed her voice for the actress Sadha for the Tamil psychological action thriller film titled ‘Anniyan.’

  

• Before dubbing for the Tamil film ‘Anniyan’ (2005), thirty voices were tested out of which Kaniha’s voice, accent, and modulation was loved by the director of the film.

• In 2006, Kaniha was cast in the Telugu romantic drama film titled ‘Naa Autograph Sweet Memories.’ This film was the remake of the Tamil romantic drama film titled ‘Autograph’ (2004).

  

• In the same year, she started hosting the Tamil reality Stand-up comedy television show titled ‘Kalakka Povathu Yaaru?’ which was telecast on Star Vijay TV channel.

  

• In 2007, Kaniha dubbed her voice for the actress Shriya Saran for the Tamil action film titled ‘Sivaji: The Boss.’

  

• In 2008, she hosted the Tamil TV show titled ‘Annual Chutti Vikatan Children’s Quiz Show’ which aired on Sun TV.

  

• In 2009, she was cast in the Malayalam film titled epic period drama film titled ‘Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja’ which was based on the life of the East-India King named Pazhassi Raja.

  

• In the same year, she was cast in the Kannada drama film titled ‘Rajakumari’ which was a remake of the Tamil film titled ‘Anantha Poongatre’ (1999). Kaniha played the character of Kumari in the film.

  

• In 2013, Kaniha was appointed as one of the judges for the Malayalam reality show titled ‘Sundari Neeyum Sundaran Njanum’ which aired on the Asianet TV channel.

  

• In 2015, Kaniha made a cameo appearance as a pregnant woman in the Tamil romantic drama film titled ‘O Kadhal Kanmani’ which was also known as ‘OK Kanmani.’

  

• In 2018, she was cast in the Malayalam action thriller film titled ‘Abrahaminte Santhathikal’ in which she played the character of Adv. Diana Joseph.

  

• In 2019, Kaniha was appointed as one of the judges for the Malayalam dance reality TV show titled ‘Kerala Dance League’ which was telecast on Amrita TV.

  

• In 2020, on the occasion of Mother’s Day, Kaniha released a short film titled ‘Maa’ which was directed by Kaniha herself. The short film was released on her YouTube channel.

  

• In 2021, Kaniha sang the Tamil song titled ‘Thiruppavai’ for the Tamil film titled ‘Margazhi Thingal.’

• In 2022, she was appointed as one of the judges for the Malayalam cooking reality show titled ‘Cook with Comedy’ which was telecast on the Asianet TV channel.

• In 2023, Kaniha was cast in the Tamil action drama film titled ‘Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir’ which was based on one of the Purananuru‘s landscape poems, Pothuviyal 192, “Periyor Siriyor!.”

  

• In the same year, Kaniha was amongst many other people who were affected by the severe Cyclonic Storm Michaung. She had to evacuate her house due to the escalating water levels, lack of power, and water supply. Replying to her fans who were concerned, Kaniha posted an Instagram story in which she wrote
  

  YES we Evacuated. With no power and water supply and increasing level of water we had no choice. Thanks to the rescue team and their efforts. An entire community of 150 plus people were rescued and evacuated.”

• She has been part of many Tamil films and some of them include ‘Aethiree’ (2004), ‘Dancer’ (2004), ‘Varalaru’ (2006), and ‘Weapon’ (2024).

  

• Kaniha has been part of many Malayalam films and some of them are ‘Christian Brothers’ (2011), ‘How Old Are You’ (2014), ‘Mylanchi Monchulla Veedu’ (2014), ‘Lonappante Mamodeesa’ (2019), and ‘Perfume: Her Fragrance’ (2022).

  

• She loves animals and often shares photos and videos with her pet dog on social media.

  

• Kaniha has been part of many Tamil TV shows and some of them including ‘Mega Thangavettai’ (2007) and ‘Pongal Vilayattu’ (2023).

• Kaniha has been part of various Malayalam TV shows and some of them are ‘Uggram Ujjwalam’ (2015), ‘Comedy Stars Season 2’ (2016), ‘Snehathode Veetil Ninnu’ (2020), ‘Health Desk’ (2020), and ‘Red Carpet’ (2021).

• She has also been featured in various print ads and TV commercials and some of the brands that she has endorsed are The Chennai Silks, Kalyan Sarees and Jewellers, Tata Gold Plus, Aachi Masala, and ICL Fincorp.
