Some Lesser Known Facts About Kabak Yano
After the death of her father, who used to work as a casual laborer with the public works department, Yano took on multiple jobs as a bouncer, beauty parlor worker, and in a clothing store to support her family and also fund her education.
At the age of 24 years, she started scaling multiple continental peaks as part of the elite Seven Summits Challenge.
She cites Abraham Tagit Sorang, a famed mountaineer from Arunachal Pradesh, as her role model and inspiration in her mountaineering journey
On May 21, 2024, Kabak became the first Nyishi woman and the fifth woman from Arunachal Pradesh to conquer Everest. She began her expedition on March 27, 2024, reached Base Camp by April 17, and successfully summited the world’s highest peak on May 21.
In August 2025, as part of her ongoing Seven Summits challenge, she summited Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m). The expedition was flagged off by Governor K.T. Parnaik.
On 16 August 2025, Kabak scaled Mount Elbrus which is the highest peak in Europe as another landmark in her Seven Summits quest. She reached the summit at 5:20 am local time. Governor Parnaik lauded her commitment and noted her as a symbol of the Spirit of Arunachal.

She is known as a trailblazer, the first woman from the Nyishi community to summit Everest.
Kabak is also athletically versatile, having played cricket at a state level.
