Some Lesser Known Facts About Jubin Nautiyal

  • Jubin started inclining towards music at a very young age of 4. To fulfill his love for singing, he later enrolled in Welham’s Boys School, Dehradun, where he took up music as the primary subject.
  • Apart from singing, he can also play a number of musical instruments like guitar, piano, harmonium, drums, flute, etc.
  • While at college, Jubin happened to meet A. R. Rahman. Rahman, impressed by his voice quality, advised him to carry on with Riyaaz (music practice).
  • Following his idol’s advice, Jubin came back to his hometown and started training again under his former music teacher, Vandana Srivastava. After spending four years training and traveling with local bands, Jubin’s breakthrough finally came in the year 2014 with the movie Sonali Cable.
  • Also, in order to polish his western music skills, Jubin enrolled in a music academy in Chennai, where he got the opportunity to learn under veteran guitarist Prasanna.
  • Jubin participated in the music reality show- X Factor in 2011. However, he couldn’t make it to the top 25 contestants.

  • Although he has sung many songs in Bollywood, he is best remembered for Meherbani from The Shaukeens (2014) Bandeyaa from Jazbaa (2015) and The Humma Song from Ok Jaanu (2016).

  • His father, Ramsharan Nautiyal, is an active politician in Uttarakhand who had left the Congress and joined the BJP in 2014. In February 2022, his father bagged a BJP ticket from Chakrata ahead of the 2022 Uttarakhand assembly election. On 10 February 2022, Jubin took to Twitter to congratulate his father.
  • In March 2025, he won the Best Male Playback Singer award for the song ‘Dua’ from the film Article 370 at the 25th International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA).
