Some Lesser Known Facts About Ira Khan

• Ira Khan is an Indian film and theatre director. She is known for being the daughter of the Bollywood celebrity Aamir Khan and his first wife, Reena Dutta.

• At 6, Ira was diagnosed with Tuberculosis.

• Reena took custody of her children, Ira and Junaid, following her divorce from Aamir in December 2002.

  

• Unlike most celebrity kids, who follow their parents into the acting profession, Ira said that she was more interested in working behind the camera. In an interview, while talking about the same she said,
  

  I’ve always felt more comfortable and enthusiastic about working off-stage or behind the camera rather than [being] in front of it. I’ve never felt the inclination to act except if it were in an action film, so I get to learn all the cool stunts. Then again… I can just learn how to do the stunts without a film to work on.”

• After completing her formal education, Ira pursued an internship in the production department at Equinox Films Pvt Ltd.

• In April 2017, she started working as a freelance assistant director and worked on various advertisements.

• In July 2019, she started her journey as a theatre director when directed an adaptation of Medea, an ancient Greek tragedy written by Euripides. The play starred Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan and actress Hazel Keech in the lead.

Once I was out of the situation, I didn’t feel so bad anymore. I was not scared anymore. I moved on and let go.”

• In March 2021, she founded Agatsu Foundation, a collective that aims to raise awareness about mental health issues and tackle related problems.

• On 22 September 2022, Ira Khan took to her Instagram account to announce her engagement to Nupur Shikhare who proposed to her with a ring at 2022 IRONMAN Italy Emilia-Romagna; Nupur was participating in the event.

• Ira often addresses mental health matters in interviews and has been transparent about her battle with depression. In 2023, she highlighted her parents’ separation as a major reason for her mental challenges. In an interview, she mentioned how Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta’s divorce left an indelible mark on her mental health. Although she didn’t hold them responsible for her condition, she felt their approach made it seem like divorce was just a minor hiccup. • On 10 October 2023, Ira Khan and her father, Aamir Khan, shared their thoughts on the significance of mental health in a video posted to mark World Mental Health Day. They encouraged individuals to seek therapy for mental or emotional challenges and disclosed that both of them had been receiving therapy for several years.

  

• Ira Khan’s wedding on 3 January 2024, grabbed attention for its unique approach. Nupur Shikhare arrived at Taj Lands End, Mumbai, for the ceremony after jogging for about 8 kilometres in shorts and a black vest.
