• Indira Billi and her family were settled in Kharian, Gujrat, British India (now Gujrat District, Punjab Province, Pakistan) until the partition of India.

• Her family faced financial losses when they shifted to Kanpur, India, after the partition.

• Her family moved to Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1952 as her brother had a business there.

• She appeared in supporting roles in several Hindi films like Milap (1955), Shree 420 (1955), and Basant Bahar (1956).

• The filmmakers named her Indira Billi because of her light-coloured eyes to identify her from another actress of the time Indira Bansal.

• She was noticed for her roles as Yasmine in the film Yahudi (1958), Rekha in Asli-Naqli (1962) and Rukhsana in Teen Sardar (1965).

  

• She also played the lead actress in low-budget Hindi films such as Tarzan Aur Jadugar (1963), Jungle Ki Hoor (1967), and CID Agent 302 (1968).

  

• She was a popular lead actress in the Punjabi film industry. Some of those films were Mama Ji (1964) as Laali, Sassi Punnu (1965) as Sassi, and Pardesan (1969) as herself.
