Hemant Patil belongs to a middle-class Maratha family.
Hemant has supported Shiv Sena since his youth.
He cleared the Police Sub-Inspectors (PSI) exam in 1991.

A letter, allegedly written by Hemant Patil, went viral in December 2019 which displayed solidarity with the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) after his party had already opposed the laws. Denying to have written that letter, in an interview, he said,
I have not written any such letter. One of my letters issued for railway reservations has been misused here. Someone has misused this letter and changed the matter over it through computer, and this new letter has been made viral on WhatsApp and other social media.”
For over a decade, he has been organising Ashadhi Mahotsav, a four-day cultural event, every year in the Nanded city which features devotional songs sung by many famous artists.
As an environmentalist, he loves to preserve and conserve endangered tree species.
To spread awareness among the public to stop pollution in the Godavari River, he organised a Godavari Mahotsav, which featured a 50-day cleanliness campaign of the Godavari by the volunteers.
During the Godavari Mahotasav, he also organised Lavani Dance Mahotsav and cuisine competitions to provide a platform for women to display their talents.
He is a sports lover and serves as the President of the Nanded District Archery Association.
Often, he organises state-level sports competitions for cricket, wrestling, and table tennis.
In June 2022, two factions of Shiv Sena were created led by Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde. Hemant reportedly joined the Eknath Shinde faction on 19 July 2022.
He loves travelling and has been to many countries including Cambodia, China, Germany, Mauritius, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, USA, and Vietnam.
He serves as the founder of Godavari Urban Multi State Credit Co-Op Society Ltd.

Supporting the Maratha Reservation protests, he submitted his resignation letter as an MP to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, on 29 October 2023. Talking about the strong emotions of people on Maratha reservation and his desire to resign to support the people, he wrote,
The feelings of the community are very strong. I have been an activist fighting for the Maratha community and farmers for years. I am supporting the reservation movement and I am resigning from my post for Maratha reservation.” [9]The Indian Express
