• Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer belongs to a family of farmers.

• Meet has been interested in sports since childhood. During his school days, he played various sports, served as the sports captain, and participated in various competitions.

• While studying at the Swami Vivekanand Institute of Engineering & Technology in Punjab, he began preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

• During this time, he joined Anna Hazare‘s 2011 Indian Anti-Corruption Movement and later became one of the founding members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

• At the age of 27, he served as the vice president of the AAP youth wing and was the youngest candidate on the party’s third list.

  

• Meet won the 2017 Punjab Legislative Assembly elections on a ticket from the Aam Aadmi Party after defeating the INC candidate Kewal Singh Dhillon by a margin of 2,432 votes; he represented the Barnala constituency.

  

• He won the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly elections from the Barnala constituency and defeated the Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Kulwant Singh Keetu with a margin of  37,622 votes.

• He took oath as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Punjab at the Guru Nanak Dev Auditorium in Punjab Raj Bhavan, Chandigarh, on 19 March 2022.

  

• While serving as the Minister of Sports and Youth Services, Meet played a key role in launching the event ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ in 2022. It was launched to enhance sports development in Punjab; the first event took place at the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium in Jalandhar on 29 August.

  

• On 27 January 2023, he started the renovation of Ramsara Minor (sub canal) at Shergarh to solve water scarcity for local farmers. He also announced plans to fix other minors and bridges, costing Rs. 2.1 crore.

  

• Meet won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Sangrur constituency on a ticket from AAP. He defeated Sukhpal Singh Khaira, an INC candidate, by a margin of 1,72,560 votes.

• Hayer is an avid animal lover and often posts pictures with them on social media.

  

• He is passionate about wildlife and actively joins events supporting animal welfare causes.
