  • Fatima Payman was born into an Afghan political family, as her paternal grandfather was a member of parliament in Afghanistan.
  • Her maternal grandparents moved from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan, where her mother later married her father and settled in Kabul.
  • Her family fled to Pakistan from the Taliban when she was 5 years old.
  • In 1999, her father arrived in Australia by boat. and was in Immigration detention. He then worked as a security guard, kitchen worker, and taxi driver.
