Some Lesser Known Facts About Dr. Sharmila

•  She has predominantly worked in Tamil and Malayalam television and film industry.

• In 1990, Sharmila worked as an anchor to a quiz shows on Jaya TV (formerly JJ TV). Later, she conducted a talk show Indha Vaaram Ivar, where she interviewed celebrities.

• In 1996, she worked as a house surgeon at Government Royapettah Hospital, Chennai.

• She has worked in various television serials such as Jannal-Marabu Kavithaigal (2000) as Gomathi aired on Raj TV, Irandaam Chanaakiyan (2000) aired on Sun TV, Agni Saatchi (2002) as Nila aired on Vijay TV and Roja (2018) as Shenbagam aired on Sun TV.

• She has worked in various films including Tamil film Ponmanam (1998) as Priya,  Padikkadavan (2009) as Kavitha and Kalyana Samayal Saadham (2013) as Raghu’s Aunt.

• She was subsequently selected by the psychiatrist Dr. N. Mathrubootham, who wanted to conduct sex education discussions on television and to read the letters from the public.

• In 2022 Sharmila’s younger brother Hari died.

• In 2022, she started her YouTube channel named Sharmila Talkies. On her channel she uploads content based on politics, society, art, literature, food, life, health, soap opera, and cinema. As of 2024, her channel has more than 100K subscribers on YouTube.

• She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. She learnt Bharatanatyam for 10 years under Nandana Gopalakrishnan.
