Some Lesser Known Facts About Dhananjay Munde

  • Dhananjay Munde entered politics as a party worker under the guidance of his uncle, BJP  leader Gopinath Munde, after completing his law education. He then began encouraging youth to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.
  • Dhananjay was once involved in a legal dispute over his alleged marriage to Karuna Sharma. While Munde maintained that he was legally married only to Rajshree Munde since 2001, Sharma claimed they got married in 1998, and had two children together in 2005 and 2006.

  • Dhananjay Munde served as the President of Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in 2007.
  • In 2009, Munde felt sidelined when Gopinath chose his daughter, Pankaja Munde, to contest the assembly elections from Parli. This led to tensions between them.
  • In 2014, Dhananjay contested the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections on a ticket from the Nationalist Congress Party from the Parli constituency. However, he lost the seat to the BJP candidate Pankaja Munde by 25,895 votes.
  • On 22 December 2014, Dhananjay was appointed as the Leader of Opposition of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He served in this position till 24 October 2019.
  • In 2019, Dhananjay defeated the BJP candidate Pankaja Munde by 30,701 votes in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections.
  • He was appointed as the Guardian Minister of Beed District for the Government of Maharashtra on 9 January 2020 and served in this position till 29 June 2022.
  • Dhananjay contested the 2024 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections from the Parli constituency and defeated an NCP-SP candidate named Rajesaheb Deshmukh by 1,40,224 votes.
