After completing his formal education, Darshan Singh Sahsi worked as a brick kiln owner in village Rajgarh, located in tehsil Doraha, district Ludhiana, in Punjab.

Darshan Singh Sahsi was the first person to receive a licence for textile recycling in the Kandla Special Economic Zone (KASEZ) in Gujarat.
In 1991, he moved to Vancouver, Canada, where he led his company, Canam International, and became a successful businessman.
The company became well-known worldwide for recycling clothes.
Darshan Singh Sahsi then became known for his service, philanthropy, and active role in the community.

He was associated with several Punjabi writers and cultural groups.
Since 2012, Darshan Singh Sahsi supported the Punjabi Sahit Akademi, an organisation which promotes Punjabi literature in Punjab, India.
He worked to promote the Punjabi language and culture.

On 28 October 2025, he was shot and killed outside his home in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, when he was about to leave for his work. Reportedly, the attack was planned and targeted.

A gangster named Goldy Dhillon, based in Canada and linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the murder.
After the attack, Goldy Dhillon reportedly shared a post on Facebook and claimed that he was behind the murder. He alleged that Darshan Singh Sahsi was involved in a large drug trade and had refused to give money to the gang.
My father or anyone from our family never received any threat, extortion, or ransom call from any gangster, etc. No one, absolutely no one, benefits from killing my father.”
