While studying at Yale University, Wray used to work as executive editor of Yale Law Journal.

After completing his law degree, Wray worked as a Clerk under the Judge J. Michael Luttig of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Wray’s government service started in 1997 as an assistant U.S. Attorney for Northern District of Georgia.

Wray was the Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Criminal Division from 2003 to 2005 under the administration of former American President George W. Bush.

During the Bridgegate scandal, he acted as Personal Attorney of the New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

On 7 June 2017, Donald Trump announced through his Twitter handle that Wray would be the new Director of FBI. Wray would replace James Comey, who was fired by Trump.
