- Channegowda was a native of Nodekoppalu village in Mandya district.
- He gained national attention for his role as Gadappa in Thithi, which featured a cast of non-professional actors. His popular dialogue ‘En nin problemmu’ (‘What is your problem?’) became a hit.

- Following Thithi, he acted in several other films, including Tharle Village (2016), En Nin Problemmu (2017), and Halli Panchayathi (2017).
- Thithi received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada in 2015 and also won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival.
- He passed away on 12 November 2025 in Mandya due to age-related ailments at the age of 89.
