Some Lesser Known Facts About Bharat Sundaresan

• Bharat Sundaresan is an acclaimed cricket writer, commentator, and author. He works for the renowned cricket website Cricbuzz. In 2018, he was recognised as the bestselling author for his book The Dhoni Touch.

• He grew up in Mumbai.

• He used to be a drummer in a heavy metal rock band.

  

• In May 2008, he started working as a special correspondent/ cricket writer at The Indian Express, a leading Indian national daily. His first story was on chess. However, within a year Sundaresan found himself reporting on the Indian Cricket Team. He worked at The Indian Express till December 2018.

• In 2012, he got engaged to Isha Chatterjee.

• In 2013, Bharat Sundaresan won an award for writing the best sports story at the Red Ink Awards. His article was called ‘The one who dropped the ball,’ and it was about a cricketer named Anil Gurav. In the article, Sundaresan told the sad story of Gurav, who got caught up in drinking and crime. Sundaresan also talked about how Gurav’s cricket career was very different from Sachin Tendulkar’s, even though they both had the same coach Ramakant Achrekar.

  

• After working at The Indian Express for over 10.5 years, he moved to Adelaide, Australia, where he became the Australian correspondent and senior writer for Cricbuzz in December 2018. He first visited Adelaide to follow the Indian cricket team’s performance in the 2014/15 Border-Gavaskar Series. Three years later, his wife, Isha, decided to enrol at Flinders University in Adelaide and Bharat accompanied her to the city.

• He started umpiring with the South Australian Cricket Association in 2019.

  

• Sundaresan authored The Dhoni Touch: Unravelling the Enigma that is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, a biography of the Indian cricket icon M.S. Dhoni, which turned out to be the 2018 national bestseller in India. He penned most of the book sitting at The Grind, on The Parade, Norwood in South Australia.
  

• He also co-authored the book Believe alongside Indian cricketer Suresh Raina.
  

• Bharat Sundaresan and Gaurav Joshi co-authored the book The Miracle Makers — Indian Cricket’s Greatest Epic.
  

• He is also a colour commentator for SEN, the Melbourne-based sports radio station.

• He travels extensively to cover cricket series throughout the world.

• He has written for several world-class publications and appeared on numerous TV news and current affairs shows in Australia.

  

• In 2022, he made headlines for posting a tweet which highlighted racism in Australian Cricket. The tweet read,

• He enjoys consuming alcoholic beverages occasionally.
