Avadhut Sathe grew up in a chawl in Dadar, central Mumbai, Maharashtra.
After completing his graduation in software engineering, Avadhut Sathe started working at Hexaware Technologies.
After that, he lived and worked in Singapore, Australia, and the US for many years.
In 2007, Avadhut Sathe left his corporate job to work as a full-time trader and trainer.
He had been practising and investing in the stock market since 1991, but focused on being a full-time trader in 2007 after leaving his corporate job.
In 2008, Avadhut Sathe delivered his first seminar on stock market trading in Mumbai. The lecture became a huge hit.
After that, he started an academy named the Avadhut Sathe Trading Academy (ASTA), which offers stock trading courses and mentorship to thousands of small investors.
After that, the academy established 17 branches across the country, including in cities such as Delhi, Chandigarh, Kochi, Pune, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Bengaluru, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Nashik, Hyderabad, and Indore, with headquarters in Mumbai.

This helped him gain many followers on social media.
According to some media reports, he charges low prices for the sessions, which helped middle-class and poor families to join.
Over the years, Avadhut Sathe trained thousands of investors.
In 2023, a dance video from one of his sessions went viral on social media. Soon, many reviews of his courses from his students also spread online.

His four-month course cost about Rs 18,000.
In 2024, SEBI, a regulatory body for securities and commodity markets in India, warned him and his academy for sharing half-truths about stock market success.
A study by SEBI revealed that most small traders usually lose money.
SEBI said ASTA’s advice was baseless, and he operated the academy without registering as an investment adviser or research analyst.
The courses at the ASTA provide specific stock tips and trade levels to its students.

On 4 December 2025, Avadhut Sathe made headlines when SEBI banned him and his firm, Avadhut Sathe Trading Academy (ASTA), from the securities market.
SEBI issued a 125-page order, which told him to return Rs. 546 crore to investors as he collected over Rs. 601 crore from more than 3.37 lakh investors.
SEBI claimed that his academy earned money unlawfully and accused Sathe and his firm of spreading wrong information on social media.
It added that ASTA only shared stories and screenshots of selective successful trades to get new clients.
My sole aim of going to the US was to click a picture with my parents at Niagara Falls.”
