Some Lesser Known Facts About Anupama Deshpande

• She was born and brought up in a middle-class singer family in Saibaba Village of Bombay State. As her father was a singer, she also started developing an interest in singing. She even used to practice singing along with her father.

• At the age of 10, she first performed on stage in the Hazara Singh Orchestra held in Bombay’s Shanmukhananda. After a couple of years, she performed on stage in Vinod Gidh’s Zankar Orchestra. After this, she started doing various bhajan programs.

• She considers her father as her first guru in the field of singing.

• Anupama Deshpande shares a good bond with the family of the Indian musician duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal. With their reference, she got the opportunity to perform in various singing events,

• Her husband used to play in Usha Khanna’s music band and also worked in a bank. She sang the bhajan song ‘Sone Se Jiven Ke Man Ki Kaliyo Ko Mahka Do Sai Baba’ from the 1977 Hindi film “Ab Kya Hoga.” She is also a huge devotee of Shirdi Wale Sai Baba.

  

• She started gaining popularity in Bollywood with the song ‘Sohni Chinab Di’ from the 1984 Hindi film ‘Sohni Mahiwal.’ The song was written by the Indian poet Anand Bakshi. This song was originally supposed to be sung by Asha Bhosle but due to her busy schedule, Asha Bhosle could not come, so Anu Malik recorded this song in Anupama Deshpande’s voice.

  

• She has worked with the Indian Music director Rajesh Roshan in many songs.

• She has recorded various songs with the Indian singer Kumar Sanu.

  

• Apart from Hindi songs, she has lent her voice to songs of a few other languages like Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Bengali.

• She has lent her voice to the religious album “Jai Santoshi Ma” with Indian playback singer Nitin Mukesh. She has also given her voice to the Sai Baba Bhajan albums named Om Shri Sainathay Namah and Om Sai Jaya Jaya Sai with Indian playback singer Mahendra Kapoor.
