  • Annie Raja belongs to an orthodox Christian family. As a kid, Annie Raja aspired to become a nun.
  • While pursuing graduation, Annie became a member of the All India Students Federation, the student wing of the Communist Party of India.
  • Later, she became a member of the youth wing of the Communist Party of India, known as the All India Youth Federation.

  • During her time at the All India Youth Federation, Annie Raja led many marches against the incumbent government, supporting the student causes.
  • Later, on the persuasion of the CPI leader and ex-chief minister P K Vasudevan Nair, Annie Raja became more active in politics and also took part in many political activities of the Communist Party of India.
  • She has held many positions for the Communist Party of India including Kannur district secretary of the CPI’s women’s wing and member of the CPI state executive committee.
  • In 1990, she met Doraisamy Raja while leading a CPI women’s march from Kannur to Thiruvananthapuram and married the same year.
  • Later, she, along with her husband, moved to Chennai and then to Delhi, where she worked 5 different jobs including teaching to make ends meet.
  • In 2005, she became the General Secretary of the National Federation of Indian Women, the women’s wing of the Communist Party of India.

  • In March 2024, she filed the nominations to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections from the Wayanad constituency in Kerala against Rahul Gandhi.
