Some Lesser Known Facts About Anisa Sayyed

• Anisa’s interest in shooting arose while she was part of the NCC in the college.

• Anisa is the youngest of 5 siblings in her family.

• To support her family financially, Anisa has given tuition to children, applied mehendi at weddings, and even stitched pillow covers.

• Before coming into the shooting sport, Anisa tried various sports such as javelin throw, discus throw, kho-kho, and volleyball. She even played football at the national level for five years and represented her state kabaddi team.

• Anisa won the title of best NCC shooter in her school.

• Anisa’s father used to play professional football at the club level.

• Anisa worked as a primary teacher at the Lady Hawa Bai Girls High School, and later, she started working as a Ticket-Collector for the Indian Railways at Vile Parle railway station of Maharashtra.

• Anisa resigned from her ticket collector job after being repeatedly denied transfer to her hometown, Pune.

• In 2002, Anisa’s shooting career began under the guidance of Gani Sheikh and P. V. Inamdar.

  

• In 2010, Anisa rose to fame when she won 2 back to back gold medals in the Commonwealth Games.

• In 2017, Anisa created a new national record at the National Shooting Championship Competition in the 25m pistol shooting category.

• Anisa won the first gold medal in the 25m pistol event in pair with Rahi Sarnobat in 2010.

  

• Anisa received a job offer from the Maharashtra government after the 2010 Commonwealth Games but refused it as she wanted the job in Haryana where she was married.

• Anisa was promised a job by the Haryana government but faced several delays for 3 years. Later, she was appointed Assistant Director of Sports in Haryana in 2015 in sports quota.
