• He had cleared the SSC exams and tried working at various ad agencies,  but he soon realised that it is not his cup of tea.

• As a child, he was trained to make beds, sweep the floor and assist in the kitchen.

• When he turned 18, he used to smoke and drink beer with his father.

• His daughter Shyamalee Palekar had openly disclosed herself as a homosexual.

• He did odd jobs, learned typewriting and even taught others how to type to pay his way through college.

• After graduating, he got a job as a clerk with the Bank Of India, but he quit this job to commenced his artistic career as a painter. As a painter, he had seven one-man exhibitions and participated in many group shows.

• He has been active in Marathi and Hindi theatre as an actor, director and producer since 1967.

• He co-hosted a New Year celebration event alongside Archana Puran Singh, an actor, on 31 December 1988.

• It was Satyadev Dubey who gave him his first break with the Marathi play Shantata! Court Chaalu Aahe. Dubey spotted Amol when latter used to hang around Theatre sets while his girlfriend rehearsed on the stage.

• After his divorce, he got involved in a relationship with the screenplay writer Sandhya Gokhale, who had written the screenplay for some of his movies.
