Some Lesser Known Facts About Alamgir Alam

• Alamgir Alam won the 2000 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly elections from the Pakur constituency on a ticket from INC with 49,218 votes by defeating BJP’s Beni Prasad Gupta.

• He again defeated Beni Prasad Gupta in the 2005 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly elections by a margin of 25,736 votes; Alam contested the elections from the Pakur constituency.

• Alamgir served as the Speaker of the Jharkhand Assembly from 20 October 2006 to 12 December 2009.

• Alamgir contested the 2009 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly elections from the Pakur constituency. He, however, lost the seat to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s Akil Akhtar by a margin of 5,676 votes.

• In 2014, Alam defeated Akil Akhtar by a margin of 18,066 votes in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly elections, which he contested from the Pakur constituency.

• In 2019, he defeated Beni Prasad Gupta by a margin of 65,108 votes in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly elections, which he contested from the Pakur constituency.

• On 29 December 2019, Alam was sworn in as a cabinet minister at the Raj Bhavan in Ranchi, Jharkhand. He was assigned the ministries of Parliamentary Affairs, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, and Rural Work Department.
