Some Lesser Known Facts About Agu Stanley

• His family hails from Orlu, Imo, located in the southeast region of Nigeria, the homeland of the Igbo people.

• He grew up in the Southwestern Nigeria.

  

• He speaks two native languages of Nigeria, Igbo and Yoruba.

• Growing up, he used to do all the household chores, cooking cleaning, washing clothes, etc.

• He has been athletic since childhood. In Nigeria, he used to participate in various track and field events like 100m, 200m, and 4 × 100m relay races. He also participated in the high jump, long jump, shot put, and discus throw.

• Stanley comes from a humble background. His father died in 2018. Thereafter, the financial responsibility of the family fell on his mother, who was a housewife. She tried to start a business but failed.

• In August 2019, Stanley moved from Nigeria to India for higher education.

• He enrolled in Amity University, Lucknow.

• He faced discrimination in the beginning. His college mates used to call him “Bandar” (monkey) and “Kaalu” (Black).

• Agu Stanley has been non-vegetarian since childhood. However, Amity University’s mess did not serve non-vegetarian food. One day, he mistook pickle for chicken and filled his plate with it. Nobody in the mess warned him about it and he realized it was pickle only after taking a bite.

• Agu Stanley was broke at the beginning of his time in India. In an interview, he shared an incident where he was broke and none of his classmates lent him even Rs. 50 to eat a meal.

• In 2020, Stanley’s college closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Most of the students in his hostel returned to their homes, while Stanley stayed. That’s when he started picking up the Hindi language.

• Stanley started dating his Indian girlfriend in 2021. She was senior to Stanley at Amity. The two became friends while preparing a skit to perform at a cultural fest. The skit was based on the popular Indian film Sholay (1975) and Stanley was supposed to play the character of Gabar.

• He started playing basketball at Amity.

• He participated in the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Trophy (2021), BFI-INBL 3×3 Season 1 Bengaluru Open (2022), and Chiranjiv 3×3 basketball tournament (2022).

• In 2022, he participated in the Red Bull Half Court 3on3 basketball tournament.

• He represented Old School Ballers in Street Ball League Seasons 3 and 4. In October 2022, Old School Ballers won the Street Ball League Season 4.

  

• In July 2022, he signed his first First Professional Basketball Contract for Elite Pro Basketball League 2023.

  

• He played in the Anuj Sharma Memorial  Tournament 2023.

• In the same year, he played in Desi 3×3 Basketball League powered by 3BL.

• He played for Champhai BC in the 2023 Mizoram Super League.

  

• Agu Stanley played for Chandigarh Conquerors in the Elite Pro Basketball League 2023.

• He won the Dunk Contest at the Elite Pro Basketball League Pre-Season 2023.

• In May 2023, he came into the spotlight when his Instagram reel on the song “Hum Hi Hai Bhojpuriya Don” by Manoj Tiwari went viral on the internet.

• Soon, he gained popularity for being a Hindi-speaking Nigerian guy.

• In June 2023, another video by Stanley titled ‘Dimaag kharab kardia’ went viral on the internet.

• Later, he collaborated with various popular personalities like Drew Hicks, Anupam Mittal, Kevin Zingkhai, Vrushali Jawale etc.

• He is lactose intolerant.

• He is a fitness freak and regularly goes to the gym.

• He is also listed as a fitness instructor on Superprof.com. The profile states that he charges Rs. 700 an hour for training online.
