Some Lesser Known Facts About Parampal Kaur Sidhu
After completing college, Parampal Kaur Sidhu appeared for the provincial civil services exams conducted by the Punjab Public Service Commission and passed.
Following her appointment as a Block Development Panchayat Officer (BDPO), she became the first woman in Punjab to be given the post.
Parampal Sidhu served as a PCS officer till 2011 after the Punjab government filed an appeal with the Government of India seeking her induction as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.
She completed her civil service training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy Of Administration in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, in 2016.
Although she became an IAS officer in 2016, the government granted her antecedent seniority due to her extensive service experience as a PCS officer and placed her in the 2011 batch.
In 2020, she attended a Mid-Career Training Programme (MCTP).
Her retirement was due on 31 October 2024, but she took retirement from the service in April 2024.
After her resignation, speculations arose that Parampal Kaur would contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Bathinda constituency on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ticket.
Sources claim that her father-in-law, Sikandar Singh Maluka, asked her to contest the elections as neither the Akali Dal nor the BJP granted him a ticket due to his age.
The Indian National Congress (INC) has often accused Sikandar Singh of getting Parampal posted to the departments, which he controlled while serving as a minister in the BJP-SAD-led Punjab government.
