Some Lesser Known Facts About Shekhar Jyoti Goswami

• Shekhar Jyoti Goswami grew up in Guwahati, Assam.

  

• After completing his formal education, he started working as a musician. Later, he began working as a sound engineer, music producer, arranger, and computer hardware engineer.

  

• Some of his music is available on streaming platforms like Shazam, Apple Music, and JioSaavn.

• After that, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami joined the band of the late singer Zubeen Garg as a drummer.

  

• On 25 September 2025, he came into the limelight when he was arrested by the Special Investigating Team (SIT) of Assam for questioning in connection with Zubeen Garg’s death.

  

• On 19 September 2025, Zubeen, along with his bandmates, went on a yacht trip while on a tour to attend the Northeast India Festival in Singapore. The trip included swimming activities, and Zubeen drowned while swimming.

• Shekhar Jyoti Goswami was with Zubeen Garg during his last moments on the yacht trip.

  

• After coming back to India, he spoke to the local news about Zubeen Garg’s death and what happened. He said that Zubeen went swimming and was seen floating face down in the water for some time.

• Shekhar Jyoti Goswami said that he swam to Zubeen, turned him over, and noticed something. He added

  White liquid coming out of his mouth and nose.”

  He said that he held Zubeen’s head up. He said,

  If I moved Zubeen’s head to right, it would droop right, if he moved it left, it would droop left after which I called for help.”

• On the same day when Shekhar Jyoti Goswami was arrested, the SIT searched the homes of Shyamkanu Mahanta, Northeast India Festival organiser, and his manager Siddhartha Sharma.

• After this, many protests were organised by the local people who demanded the arrest of Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddhartha Sharma, who were not at home when the SIT conducted the raids.

• Shekhar Jyoti Goswami likes travelling to distant places, swimming, and cycling in his free time.
