• Sonali Vishnu Shingate belongs to a Hindu family from the Kolhapur district, now settled in Mumbai.

  

• She played various sports during her student days and particularly liked cricket, but did not pursue it because of financial constraints.

• She started playing Kabaddi as it required minimum financial investment.

• She joined the Shiv Shakti Mahila Sangha Club in Mumbai at a young age and began training under coach Rajesh Padave.

  

• Even though the team lost in the quarter-final match of the Junior National Championship in 2014, Sonali’s commendable performances earned her the captaincy in the next Junior Nationals.

• Sonali wished to join the police forces.

• She accepted a job with the Indian Railways and joined its women’s Kabaddi team.

• She received six medals (2 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze) in the inter-railway competitions, five (3 gold and 2 silver) for Indian railways in national competitions, and one gold medal for the Federation for Indian Railways.

• In 2016, she gained popularity as part of the Ice Divas Team at the Women’s Kabaddi Challenge by Pro Kabaddi League.
