• Anoop Kumar was an Indian actor who predominantly worked in Bollywood. He was one of the Ganguly Brothers trio who earned a name in acting in the 20th century.

• Anoop’s elder brother, Ashok Kumar, was an actor and singer, and his younger brother, Kishore Kumar, was a legendary playback singer of the 20th century.

• In his 20s, Anoop was learning classical music. It is said that he is the only one among three brothers who earned a professional education in classical music. His other two brothers, Ashok and Kishore, learnt music on their own without any professional course.

• He was the one who taught his younger brother, Kishore Kumar, the skill of yodelling which ultimately made Kishore Kumar the most sought-after singer of the 20th century. ^[2]The Times of India

• Despite learning music, he lent his voice to only a few songs but earned a name in Bollywood films. He was famous for his comic roles.
• His debut film, ‘Khiladi,’ was released in 1950 in which he played a side role. His brother, Ashok Kumar, played the lead role in this film.

  

• In 1950, ‘Gauna’ was released in which he got to play the lead role.

  

• In 1957, he got a breakthrough in ‘Dekh Kabira Roya.’ It was a romantic comedy movie produced by Amiya Chakrabarty in which he played the lead role of Mohan who was a singer.

  

• In 1958, he made his debut in Bengali films through ‘Lukochuri’ in which Kishore Kumar played the lead role and Anoop played a side role.

• Anoop Kumar became popular after he appeared in the 1958 Bollywood film Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi alongside his brothers, Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar.

  

• Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi was the second-highest-grossing film of that year and made a box office collection of around Rs. 2.5 crore.

• In 1982, he was nominated for the Filmfare Awards for Best Comic Actor for ‘Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi.’

• In 2007, a Marathi remake of Chalti Ka Naam Gaddi was released with the title Saade Maade Teen.

• He then worked in several hit films such as ‘Junglee’ (1951), ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’ (1962), ‘Aansoo Bane Fool’, ‘Prem Pujari’ (1969)

• His last film was ‘Rock Dancer,’ which was released in 1995; the film starred Govinda, Shammi Kapoor, and Javed Jaffrey.

• In 1990, he made his television debut with Doordarshan’s detective serial ‘Bheem Bhawani’ alongside his brother Ashok Kumar. Apart from this, he also worked in ‘Dada Dadi Ki Kahaniya’ and ‘Ek Raja Ek Rani.’
  

• He lent his voice to two songs, ‘Do Dino Ki Hai Kahani’ and ‘Allah Khair Rabba Khair,’ for the film ‘Hum Do Daaku,’ produced by Kishore Kumar.

• Anoop Kumar died on 20 September 1997 after he suffered a 4th heart attack in Aryogyanidhi Hospital, Juhu, northwest Bombay.
