Kumaraswamy has twice served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka (2006-2007 and 2018-2019). Prajwal’s father, H. D. Revanna, served as Minister of the Public Works Department, Government of Karnataka from 2018 to 2019. Prajwal’s mother, Bhavani Revanna, also hails from a political family in KR Nagar. His brother, Suraj Revanna, became a Member of Karnataka Legislative Council from Hassan district in 2022.

  • After completing his schooling in India, Prajwal went to Australia to pursue an MTech. However, he dropped the course and returned home to assist his family in the 2014 general elections. He actively campaigned for his father in Holenarsipura in the elections.
  • Prajwal’s strong desire to enter electoral politics led to numerous conflicts with his uncle, H.D. Kumaraswamy, who led the state unit of the JD(S). Prajwal was enraged when JD (S) denied him a ticket ahead of the 2018 Karnataka Vidhan Sabha elections.

  • Finally, Prajwal made his debut in electoral politics in 2019 when he contested and won the Hassan Lok Sabha seat. The constituency had been a family stronghold for several years from where H. D. Deve Gowda was elected five times. For the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Gowda gave up the Hassan seat for his grandson and contested the elections from Tumkur. JD(S) had fielded candidates in 6 out of the 28 Lok Sabha seats. Prajwal emerged as the only winner in the elections. Saddened by his grandfather’s defeat, Prajwal offered to resign the Hassan parliamentary seat for him. He made an announcement saying,

As my grandfather is the founder and builder of the JD(S), I want to resign and get him re-elected from the Hassan seat through a bye-election.”

  • However, Prajwal was advised not to tender his resignation by Gowda and the party.

  • He made headlines in 2023 when Karnataka HC declared null and void the election of Prajwal Revanna from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency for not disclosing all the assets and misappropriation of assets. Thereafter, A. Manju, who lost the Hassan seat to Prajwal in 2019, filed a plea in the HC to declare him as a returned candidate. The HC rejected it citing materials provided by Prajawal in his recrimination petition which showed that Manju too was indulged in corrupt practices.
  • After being named in multiple sexual harassment cases in April 2024, JD(S) suspended him.
