  • His family was not much financially strong, and he used to work in a theater and also at the United Supermarkets to manage his studies.
  • After completing his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, he entered the active naval service at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia in 1995.
  • He completed his internship at a Transitional residency program in 1996 and went on to obtain an honorary graduate of the Navy’s Undersea Medical Officer Program in Groton, Connecticut.
  • Ronny excelled in Submarine and Hyperbaric Medicine, and completed a plethora of succeeding operational assignments, viz. as an instructor at the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center in Panama City, Florida; diving safety officer at the Naval Safety Center in Norfolk; and as Detroit officer in charge and diving medical officer at Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 8 in Sigonella, Italy.
  • After the completion of his duties, he returned to Portsmouth and began with his board-certified diploma of the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
  • He finished his course with distinction in class and received the honorary graduate designation of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
  • Ronny was appointed as clinical faculty in the Emergency Medicine Research Program at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia in 2004.

  • In 2007, he started working in WHMU, and as a White House Doctor and was the physician supervisor for the Camp David Presidential Retreat, and director of executive health care for the President’s Cabinet and senior staff before taking on the top role.
  • During the past three administrations, he has served as the White House Physician and was appointed to the President’s service by the former President Barack Obama and he retained the post during the tenure of Donald Trump. At the White House, he was responsible for serving not only to the President but also to the First Family, Vice President, and people visiting the White House including heads of state and civilian guests. 
  • Ronny was nominated for the promotion in his rear admiral rank to upper half on March 23, 2018.
  • On March 28, 2018, Donald Trump announced to appoint him as new Secretary of Veterans Affairs replacing David Shulkin.
