- His father worked for Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (Bhel) in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
- During his second year at IIT, Kanpur, Mukesh Bansal spent a lot of time in the library, reading books about entrepreneurship.
- He is inspired by the writings of Lee Iacocca, Sam Walton, and Akio Morita.
- While he was in the third year of his college, he decided to pursue an MBA and become an entrepreneur.
