• Asrani was weak in mathematics and had no interest in joining his father’s business of selling carpets.

• He was always interested in acting, so he joined Sahitya Kalbhai Thakkar to learn acting.

• At the beginning of his career, he worked in 4-5 Gujarati films as a lead actor.

• During his struggling days as an actor, Asrani worked at the Film Institute in Poona as an acting teacher. Interestingly, he was also a student of the same institute once.

• He knew Jaya Bachchan from the time he was a student at the Film Institute in Poona; he had also completed the rituals in her wedding as her fourth brother.

• Asrani became very close friends with Rajesh Khanna after ‘Bawarchi’ (1972), post which they worked in around 25 films together.

• Asrani had appeared in 101 films in 9 years between 1970-1979 and 107 films in the decade of 80’s.

• Asrani worked for almost 50 years in the film industry and was a part of many popular movies by renowned directors like Hrishikesh Mukherjee, B. R. Chopra, K. Bapaiah, Narayana Rao Dasari, K. Raghavendra Rao, etc.

• On 16 October 2025, Asrani was hospitalised at Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai, after experiencing breathing difficulties.

• On 20 October 2025, Asrani passed away at 3:00 PM at the age of 84 due to fluid buildup in his lungs. His final rites were held at the Santacruz Crematorium in Mumbai.
