Some Lesser Known Facts About Gautam Singhania

• Gautam Singhania, an Indian entrepreneur and industrialist, holds the positions of chairman and managing director at Raymond Ltd., a prominent textile company. He is one of the leading business tycoons in India. Gautam is recognized not only for his leadership at Raymond but also for his effective contributions in sectors such as automobiles, education, and real estate.

• Gautam entered the Singhania family’s JK Group company in 1986 following which he joined the Raymond Group. He was appointed as the director of the group in 1990. Gautam was promoted to the position of the managing director of the group in July 1999. He was appointed as the chairman in September 2000; Raymond Limited, initially incorporated as the Raymond Woolen Mill in 1925 near Thane Creek, came under the leadership of Lala Kailashpat Singhania in 1944.

  

• Soon after taking up significant roles, Gautam changed the group’s structure by selling off parts of the business that weren’t the main focus. He sold the steel business in September 2000, the cement business in January 2001, and the synthetics business. He then made the group concentrate more on fabrics, clothing brands, KamaSutra condoms, and men’s toiletries.

• In 2019, Gautam shifted the group’s emphasis to real estate with the introduction of ‘Raymond Realty.’ On the occasion of his daughter Niharika’s 17th birthday, i.e., 10 December 2022, Gautam announced the first project – a set of 900 apartments for customers of Ten X Habitat on Thane’s Pokhran Road in Mumbai. Gautam sold the KamaSutra brand in April 2023.

• At the age of 31, he suffered from Vitiligo, a persistent condition leading to the loss of skin colour or pigment.

• Gautam loves aircraft and yachts. He has a collection of yachts which includes a tri-deck luxury yacht crafted entirely from Burma Teak wood and another opulent yacht named Moonraker. His collection of aircraft includes a Bombardier Challenger 604 business jet and three helicopters. He once flew a Sukhoi Su-27 fighter jet in Ukraine.

  

• Gautam is an avid sports enthusiast, majorly for water sports. He has numerous speedboats, each of which is named after James Bond movies such as Goldeneye, Goldfinger, Octopussy, and Thunderball.

  

• He consumes alcohol occasionally.

  

• Gautam Singhania established ‘Super Car Club Garage’ (SCCG) in November 2020. The garage operates under the banner ‘GS Designs.’ It specializes in restoring and customizing cars, ranging from ordinary to vintage, as well as bikes, and elevating them into luxury vehicles.

  

• Singhania loves speed as much as he loves cars. He actively competes in races like the Ferrari 458 Challenge.

  

• In 2015, he won the Ferrari Challenge Europe Championship, becoming the first Indian to win the championship. ^[11]India Today

  

• Singhania established Singhania Quest+ (also spelt as Singhania Quest Plus) in 2020 with the aim to address the educational and training requirements of students, schools, and professional education. In addition to this, Gautam has been instrumental in the establishment of various educational institutions such as Singhania International School; he established three Singhania International Schools in partnership with the Kaushik Educational Foundation in September 2022.

  

• A 45 ft. high marble monument has been set up outside the JK House, depicting Gautam’s grandfather, Lala Kailashpat Singhania, seated on a throne.

  

• He made headlines in October 2024 after publicly criticizing Lamborghini India and top executives in Asia on social media for not addressing his complaint, which he described as “arrogant.” He had reached out to Lamborghini after his brand-new Revuelto malfunctioned and had to be towed away in Mumbai.
