Some Lesser Known Facts About Stanislas Wawrinka

Stan Wawrinka’s family fled to Switzerland during the World War 2, leaving Czechoslovakia because of German invasion.

Wawrinka finally got the permission to ‘simplify’ his name from ‘Stanislas’ to ‘Stan’ after repeated failed attempts, prior to the 2014 edition of French Open. He believed that his name was a little tough to pronounce and thus made up his mind for a simplified name.

When Stan Wawrinka won Rolland Garros 2015, he became the third man to lift both senior and junior trophies at French Open after Mats Willander and Ivan Lendl therefore becoming the first man since 1988 to achieve this feat.

Wawrinka became the latest athlete to go all nude for the summer edition of ESPN’s magazine “The Body Issue” (2015).
