Some Lesser Known Facts About Edavela Babu

• He grew up in Thrissur, Kerala.

  

• During his school days, Edavela Babu actively participated in extracurricular activities and won many prizes. He received a scholarship after he won a Folk Dance competition at the 17th State School Youth Festival in 1977.

• In college, he participated in many dance competitions and secured 1st place in dance from 1980 to 1983, representing Christ College, Irinjalakuda, at the Calicut University Youth Festival.

  

• After that, Malayalam film director Sri Mohan once noticed his talent and gave him a role in the film Edavela in 1981, which became a turning point in his life.

  

• Edavela Babu then went on to act in more than 100 films, including one Hindi film Meena Bazar in 1991.

• Some of his notable films include Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal (1989), Mazhavilkoodaram (1995), Masanagudi Mannadiyar Speaking (2004), Kadal Kadannu Oru Maathukutty (2013), Monster (2022), and DNA (2024).

  

• Edavela Babu has also acted in over 200 television serials including Mizhi Randilum (Surya TV; 2003), Charulatha, Kaliyalla Kallyanam, and Andherdhar.

• Apart from acting, he has hosted many live television shows on channels like Doordarshan, Asianet, Surya, Kairali, and IndiaVision.

• Edavela Babu has done voice dubbing for many actors such as Vineeth, Rehman, K.P. Kumar, Ashok Pothen, Dileep, Vishnu, and Baiju.

• He is skilled in modelling as well.

• He believes that one should get married at the age of sixty.

• Edavela Babu has served as General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), Vice-Chairman of Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) and President of the Association of Television Media Artistes (ATMA).

  

• He has served as a Vice President of Artistes of Cinema and TV Media Co-operative Society Limited (ACTCOS).

• Edavela Babu is a member of several organizations including FEFKA (Film Employees Federation of Kerala), Dubbing Artistes Union (Life member), Malayalam Television Fraternity, and Television Chamber of Kerala (Life member).

• He also serves in various roles such as an organizer at the South Indian International Academy (SIIFA), member and event director at Thanima Irinjalakuda, Life member of the Dr. K. N. Pisharody Smaraka Kathakali Club, Irinjalakuda, and member of Rover Scouts.
