• His 25-year-old brother, André, also died in the same accident. Both were travelling in Jota’s Lamborghini Urus. The crash happened on the A-52 motorway, at Kilometre Point 65, in the direction of Benavente.

• Emergency services from Castile and León confirmed the crash and stated that both brothers had died at the scene. According to the Spanish Civil Guard, the vehicle suffered a tyre blowout while overtaking another car, veered off the road and caught fire.

• It was reported that Jota had recently undergone minor surgery, and doctors had advised him not to fly afterwards. He was planning to return to Liverpool training by ferry from Santander, located on the northern coast of Spain.
