Some Lesser Known Facts About Sachin Dhas

• Sachin Dhas is an Indian cricketer who plays for the Indian national under-19 cricket team.

• Both his parents were athletes and used to compete in Kabaddi at the state level. His father, Sanjay, also played cricket up to the University level.

• Sachin spent his childhood playing cricket with his father, Sanjay Dhas, who was determined to shape his son’s future in cricket even before his birth.
• A fan of the legendary cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar, Sanjay named his son after his second favourite Sachin. Sanjay hoped to inspire a connection between the two.

• At the age of 4, he joined Adarsh Cricket Academy and started training under coach Sheikh Azhar.

  

• Sachin Dhas was a player of the Beed U-14 district team when he hit his first century, an undefeated 156, during the Invitation Cup at Shinde College in Pune. The team was struggling at 38-6 when he took to the field. This outstanding performance led to his selection in the Maharashtra U-14 team.

• Following that, he went on to represent Maharashtra in domestic cricket across various youth levels, including the U-14, U-16, and U-19 teams.

• The lack of a turf wicket in Beed was a significant hurdle in Sachin’s training. Therefore, Sanjay Dhas and Sheikh Azhar raised a loan and developed six turf wickets. Yet, maintaining these wickets was also challenging due to the regional drought. They had to purchase water tanker services every two to three days for the upkeep of the wickets. Recalling the same during an interview coach Azhar said,
  

  Water crisis is acute in Beed. Every second or third day, I used to call up a water tanker (2000 litre). We used to collect money and thus those wickets have survived till now. Around 50 kids from different age groups used to train under me, the numbers have doubled since Sachin was picked for India U-19.”

• He got 88 percent in his HSC (science stream) exams and 76 percent score in his SSC exams. ^[3]Mid-Day

• In the 2023/24 season, Sachin Dhas delivered outstanding performances across various tournaments.

• Once during an under-19 invitational tournament in Pune, Sachin’s six-hitting skill impressed the organizers to such an extent that they felt compelled to inspect the size of his bat to make sure he was not cheating.

• He contributed significantly to Maharashtra’s victory in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, participating in 9 matches and scoring 440 runs, with his scorecard featuring three half-centuries and one century.

  

• He was a part of the India C Under-19 squad for the Men’s Under 19s One Day Challenger Trophy, 2023. During the Challenger Trophy, Dhas participated in 4 games and scored a total of 244 runs at an average of 61.

• In the Asia Cup, he batted in 2 innings for India and collected 74 runs, which consisted of 5 boundaries and 3 sixes.

• He was a key player for the Kolhapur Tuskers in the 2023 Maharashtra Premier League.

• He represented India U19 B in the 2023 Quadrangular Men’s Under-19 One-Day Series. In a match against England, he scored an unbeaten century with 107 runs, but his team was defeated by three wickets. He appeared in 7 matches in the series and scored 294 runs, hitting 22 fours and 15 sixes.

• He was selected in India’s team for the 2024 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup.

• On 2 February 2024, Dhas and skipper Uday Saharan’s partnership of 215 runs for the fourth wicket led India to a 132-run win over Nepal. While Dhas scored 116 runs, Saharan made a century. Dhas hit 11 fours and 3 sixes. He was awarded the title of Player of the Match.

  

• Then, Sachin grabbed the limelight during the semi-final against South Africa at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on 6 February 2024. He and Uday Saharan broke the record of the highest fifth-wicket partnership in U19 cricket with 172 runs.
  

  

  Sachin entered the pitch when India was in a tight spot at 32 for 4, chasing 245. He managed to score 96 runs from 95 balls, and Uday contributed 81 from 124 balls, leading India to a close win by two wickets. Among Sachin’s notable plays were his exceptional pull shots, which included short-arm jabs.

• Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop was taken aback by Sachin Dhas’s short-arm jabs against Riley Norton in the match. In his commentary, Bishop mentioned that although Shubman Gill excelled at this technique, Sachin was performing exceptionally well too.
