Some Lesser Known Facts About Mauricio Figueroa

• He made his television debut at the age of 7 in an episode of the Colombian educational show, ‘Aprendamos de nutrición’ with his brother, Edgar Figueroa.

• He grew up wanting to become a priest and served as an altar boy for 6 years after he turned 8.

• His family suffered from a severe financial crisis after the death of his grandfather which led him to run away from his home.

• He moved to Bogotá in 1969 to pursue a career in acting.

• He is the first man to walk on a ramp as a model in Colombia.

• He earned 400 pesos per episode for his performance in the Colombian TV show, ‘La ciudad grito’ in 1972.

• In an interview, he revealed that when he was 23 years old, he was often asked about his marital status which annoyed him. Thus he married a friend for a brief time who needed to get married for an inheritance and said,
  

  To get people off my back, I married a friend who needed to get married to receive an inheritance. We arranged the marriage by mutual agreement, then we went for eight days without anything happening between us and then I never saw her again.”

• He has appeared in several Colombian TV shows and films including ‘Paths of Glory’ (1973), ‘Piel de Zapa’ (1979), ‘La caponera’ (1999), ‘La Dame de Troy’ (2008), ‘Escobar: el patrón del mal’ (2012), ‘Armero’ (2017) and ‘Más Allá Del Tiempo’ (2019).

  

• During the 1980s, he moved to America where he worked as an event presenter and modeling coach. He returned to Colombia in the 1990s and initially dedicated himself to the theatre.

• He once wanted to marry his fellow actress, María Cecilia Botero as they had appeared on several TV shows as a couple. Later, he decided against the marriage as he was afraid that he might cheat on her.

• In an interview in 2024, he expressed his frustration for getting less work and getting sidelined due to his advanced age and said,
  

  At 70 years old, I still have a good memory, because I practice it with mental games, manuals and I read a lot. I don’t have wrinkles, my hair is still the same, it hasn’t fallen out and I take care of my diet, which hasn’t happened to many of my younger colleagues, they look older! If I take into account my good health so much, it makes me angry and I think, when will they hire me?”

• He has talked about not wanting to get married or have a relationship during his youth in an interview as he feared it might stop him from having the freedom to do what he wanted.

• In January 2025, he became a contestant in the second season of the Colombian reality TV show, ‘La casa de los famosos Colombia.’
