• He was criticised by the winner of the Portuguese TV show Big Brother 2024 Inês Morais, who took to her X (formerly Twitter) account and called him “stupid” for not removing the neo-Nazi symbol from his Instagram profile. She said,
  

  The boy Afonso is a bit stupid, he could have taken that off Insta and then he would have just been left with the spotlight for having starred in the most boring interaction of the night.”

• In the show, he discussed his troubled past and talked about the abuse his father carried out on his mother due to which they got divorced. He stated that his stepfather showing up was the best thing that happened in his life.

• He also recalled an incident in the show and claimed that once his father beat her mother so badly that she received nearly 20 bruises and was hospitalised. He has claimed that his father would also beat him and his brother.

• He further claimed that when he was 16, he and his elder brother had to attend meetings with a social security assistant and a psychologist at an institution in Lisbon due to the abuse.
