Some Lesser Known Facts About Shweta Basu Prasad

• Shweta Basu Prasad is an Indian actor and entrepreneur. She received the National Film Award for her role as Chunni/Munni in the Hindi film ‘Makdee’ (2002).

• When she was too young, Shweta and her family moved from Jharkhand to Mumbai. Her father has worked in many theatre plays, and her mother has been inclined towards Indian classical music for a very long time.

  

• Shweta started her career as a child actor and appeared in many Hindi TV serials such as ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’ (2000), ‘Kutumb’ (2001), ‘Koshish – Ek Aashaa’ (2002), and ‘Karishma Kaa Karishma’ (2003).

  

• She then acted in a few Hindi films. In 2005, she appeared in the Hindi film ‘Iqbal’ after which her parents decided that Shweta would take a break from acting and focus on her studies. At that time, Shweta got an offer from the Indian director Madhur Bhandarkar for the film ‘Traffic Signal’ (2007) and from Raj Kumar Santoshi for the film ‘Halla Bol’ (2008), but her parents turned down the offer. ^[6]News 18 After completing the shooting of the Hindi films like ‘Vaah! • In 2012, she started working on making the Hindi documentary ‘Roots.’ The documentary cast includes renowned Indian celebrities like Shubha Mudgal, AR Rahman, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, and Vishal Bhardwaj.

• She then appeared in the Tamil film ‘Chandhamama’ (2013).

  

• In 2013, she met the Indian filmmaker Rohit Mittal. Initially, they became friends and soon, fell in love with each other. After a live-in relationship of two and a half years, the couple got married. However, their marriage did not last long and within a year of their marriage, Shweta announced their separation through a post on her Instagram account. The post reads,
  

  Hi everyone, Rohit Mittal and I have mutually decided to part our ways and end our marriage. After months of contemplation, we arrived at this decision a few months ago in each other’s best interest, as individuals. Not every book is supposed to be read cover to cover, that doesn’t mean the book is bad, or one can’t read, some things are best left unfinished. Thank you Rohit for the irreplaceable memories and always inspiring me. Have a great life ahead, forever your cheerleader.”

  The couple then got divorced. During an interview, Shweta talked about her divorce, she said,

  Yes, we have filed for a legal separation. Rohit and I are perfectly cordial and friendly. As I had mentioned in my post it was a mutual decision. He has always been very supportive of my acting career and I am his fan, he is a wonderful filmmaker and I hope we work together someday. We had 5 years of a very loving, healthy and loyal relationship, we just decided to end the marriage and remain, friends, that’s it. Of course I am not closed to the idea of falling in love again but right now my only focus is my career and my work. Love happens organically great, if it doesn’t happen then no problem. Not looking for it.”

  She added,

  Of course, I was sad; nobody parties when you split up with anybody, but I have an amazing family around me. Besides, I think one is his own friend or enemy in such situations; I went on to become my own friend and I am fine now.”

• On 19 November 2015, Shweta joined the Indian film production and distribution company Phantom Studios in Mumbai, as a script consultant. After working there for a year, in 2017, she started working as a column writer at The Indian Express.

• In 2016, she worked as an assistant director with the Indian director Anurag Basu in the Hindi short film ‘Madly’ for a segment ‘Clean Shaven.’

• She then started an interior company named Interiors by Shweta Basu Prasad.

  

• Shweta then acted in a few Telugu films such as ‘Ride’ (2009), ‘Kasko’ (2009), ‘Priyudu’ (2011), and ‘Vijetha’ (2018).

  

• In 2017, Shweta played the role of Nandini Maurya in the Hindi TV series ‘Chandra Nandini.’ The serial was aired on Star Plus.

• She has also appeared in Hindi short films such as ‘Int. Café: Night’ (2014), ‘Chubhan’ (2019), and ‘The Lovers’ (2020).

• She enjoys reading books and has a good collection of books. She often listens to the poetry of Rabindranath Tagore.

• She has been invited as a guest speaker at various talk shows such as TEDx Talks and Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares.
