Some Lesser Known Facts About Shiladitya Chetia

• Shiladitya Chetia hailed from Kamrup Metropolitan district in Assam.

• His father was a DIG-rank police officer.

• Shiladitya was appointed as the Superintendent of Police in Nalbari, Assam, in January 2018.

• On 23 January 2019, he was appointed as the Superintendent of Police in Tinsukia, Assam.

• On 2 February 2022, he was appointed as the Commandant of the 4th Assam Police Battalion in Kahilipara, Guwahati. He was also given the additional charge of an SP (R&AC), Special Branch, Assam.

• Chetia served as the Superintendent of Police in the districts Sonitpur, Kokrajhar, and Barpeta. He had led many operations against criminal and terrorist groups.

  

• He was appointed as the Secretary of the Home and Political Department in the Government of Assam in Dispur on 2 February 2023.

• In 2024, he was appointed as the Secretary of the Home and Political Department in the Government of Assam.

• On 18 June 2024, Shiladitya shot himself in the back of his head with his service gun in the ICU of the Nemcare Hospital, Guwahati. This happened a few minutes after his wife, who had been battling terminal brain cancer for two years, passed away. The MD of the hospital Dr Hitesh Baruah talked about the incident in an interview and said,
  

  Today at 4.30pm, the attending doctor informed him of her passing. The doctor and a nurse were in the room with him and he requested them to step out, saying that he wanted to pray. Around 10 minutes later, a loud sound was heard from the room.”

• Chetia and his wife had been at the Nemcare Hospital for nearly two months, where she was receiving treatment for cancer. Chetia had taken leave from duty to be with his wife during this time.
