• Kalyan Chatterjee was born and raised in Berhampore, West Bengal.

• He was a popular Indian actor who was predominantly recognized for his work in Bengali cinema.

  

• Kalyan was also considered to be one of the most famous supporting actors of Bengali Cinema.

• Being interested in acting since childhood, he started doing theatre from a young age.

• Kalyan studied performing arts at the Pune Film Institute before making his big screen debut.

• After being rejected in various screening tests, Chatterjee made his debut in 1968 with a Bengali film titled Apanjan.

• In 1970, he made his Hindi film debut with the film Sagina Mahato.

• Soon, Kalyan became a well-known face in Bengali Cinema. Over the decades, he had acted in more than 400 films.

• In most of his films, he had portrayed the role of a typical Bengali man and was appreciated by viewers for his natural acting skills.

• Kalyan’s notable films include Dhanyee Meye (1971), Sabuj Dwiper Raja (1973), Dui Prithibi (2010), and Baishe Srabon (2011)

• Kalyan Chatterjee had been suffering from typhoid and age-related ailments for a long time.

• He had been admitted to MR Bangur Super Specialty Hospital, West Bengal. Despite continuous medical care, he breathed his last on the night of 7 December 2025.

• On 8 December 2025, Kalyan Chatterjee’s body was taken directly from the hospital to the Keoratala crematorium, where the last rites were completed.
