Some Lesser Known Facts About Rakesh Kishore

• Rakesh Kishore, a senior advocate, is a registered member of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

• At the age of 55, in 2009, he was enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi.

• Reportedly, Rakesh Kishore is a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association, the Shahdara Bar Association, and the Bar Council of Delhi.

• On 6 October 2025, he came into the limelight when he threw his shoe at Bhushan R Gavai, Chief Justice of India (CJI).

• After that, during a media interview, Rakesh Kishore said that he was angry about the Chief Justice’s comments on restoring a beheaded Lord Vishnu idol at the Javari temple in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh.

• He added that he did not feel guilty after throwing a shoe at the Chief Justice and claimed that he was acting under the guidance of god. He said,

  The almighty was asking me every night how I could rest after such an insult.”

• Rakesh Kishore said that he became furious after the Chief Justice’s speech in Mauritius, in which he said that India’s legal system is based on the rule of law, not on the rule of a bulldozer.

  

• The Bar Council of India (BCI) ordered his immediate suspension after the incident. It ordered,
  

  On the basis of prima facie material, it appears that at about 11.35 am on 6 October 2025, in Court No. 1 of the Supreme Court of India, you i.e. Advocate Rakesh Kishore, enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi vide enrolment nos…, removed your sports shoes and attempted to hurl them towards the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India during ongoing proceedings, whereupon you were detained by security.”

• The BCI stopped him from appearing, pleading, or practising in any court, tribunal, or authority in India.

• Rakesh Kishore received a show-cause notice asking him to explain why this action should not continue. The BCI also started disciplinary action against him.

• After his arrest, the Delhi Police stated that Kishore had no criminal record. He was released after being questioned for three hours.

• The Delhi Police let him go because the Supreme Court’s registrar general did not want to press charges.

• During his time in office, Rakesh Kishore had filed at least two petitions.

• When he was the president of Riverview Apartments in Mayur Vihar Phase 1, Delhi, Kishore filed a petition before the Delhi Cooperative Tribunal against the society’s former president and former secretary about an old Tribunal order regarding the use of garbage tubes in August 2021.

• In June 2022, the Tribunal dismissed the petition, saying that it was no longer valid.

• After that, Rakesh Kishore filed another writ petition in the Delhi High Court and asked the court to tell the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Delhi, to take action over mismanagement in a multi-storey complex.

• He claimed that the complex had no fire safety certificate from 2004 to 2021.

• During a media conversation, the residents of the Riverview Apartments in Mayur Vihar Phase 1 said they had made several complaints against Rakesh Kishore. One complaint was about an assault on a senior citizen in November 2021.
