• Kapil came from a lower middle-class family with no entertainment background and had to struggle a lot to get himself roles that are worthy.

• During his graduation at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, he used to direct plays for his pocket money. He was also a scholarship holder and a national-level winner in theatre.

• He was paid minimum wages in the initial stages of his career and he even acted as a comedian without being paid at all.  He has also worked in a PCO, a cloth mill and even picked crates of soft-drinks to earn money.

• His father died in 2004 due to Cancer. He didn’t have the money to join any acting course but due to his sheer talent, many institutions sponsored his acting course fee.

• According to Kapil, his sense of humour comes from his mother who has been his biggest source of inspiration.

• He started his acting career as a theater artist when he was in his early 20s. 

• His initial passion was singing and singing is the thing which made him come to the tinsel town.

• In April 2018, he filed an F.I.R. against Spotboye editor Vicky Lalvani and Neeti and Preeti Simoes for maligning his image. In reply, Lalwani shared an audio tape recording of his alleged phone conversation with Kapil Sharma.

• In July 2022, in a conversation with veteran actor Mukesh Khanna, action director Tinu Verma revealed that he ‘slapped’ Kapil Sharma and threw him off the set of the Bollywood film Gadar. Reportedly, Kapil Sharma had a small role in Sunny Deol‘s Gadar; however, his scene could not make the final cut. While giving the reason behind this act, Tinu said that during the shoot of a scene for the film, when he asked the crowd to rush in the direction of the train, everyone did so except Kapil who ran in the opposite direction due to which they had to re-shoot the scene, and it angered Tinu. ^[7]DNA

• In October 2022, he revealed that he was once rejected for the singing reality show Indian Idol. While speaking with the judges of Indian Idol on his comedy show, Kapil Sharma said,
  

  I have given ‘Indian Idol’ auditions during one of the seasons. The auditions took place in Amritsar and I was not selected. Then there was this ‘Indian Idol’ copy ‘Awaz Punjab Di’ in our area where I was selected.” ^[8]Koimoi

• In March 2023, in a new episode of the TV show Seedhi Baat on Aaj Tak, he opened up about the lowest phase of his life during which he had suicidal thoughts. He said,
  

  I used to feel like this at a certain phase of my life. I felt like there is no one around for me. I could see no one to help me understand things or take care of me. You don’t even realise who is connected with you only for their own personal benefits, especially for the artists.” ^[9]India Today

• On the popular Indian talk show Aap Ki Adalat aired on 11 March 2023, Kapil Sharma opened up about an embarrassing moment when he met Amitabh Bachchan after consuming alcohol. According to the comedian, there was a time when it was difficult for him to leave the house without consuming alcohol, and when Amitabh Bachchan once said that he would come in the morning for the voice-over of Kapil’s film, Kapil was not in a position to get out of his house, hence he consumed alcohol. On the show, Kapil acknowledged that it was a humiliating experience for him and said that after meeting Mr. Bachchan, he wrote him an apology letter, and Mr. Bachchan gave a motivational reply to him. According to Kapil, when he said sorry to Mr. Bachchan in his letter, Mr. Bachchan replied,
  

  Jeevan chunotiyon ka hi doosra naam hai. Toh aap uthke dobara khade hoiye.” ^[10]The Indian Express

• Kapil was reported to make his debut on OTT with the talk show ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show,’ which was scheduled to stream on Netflix in March 2024.

• In March 2024, Kapil and Sunil Grover officially ended their infamous fight by collaborating for ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show.’ They revealed in an interview that despite six years apart, they remained in touch. ^[11]The Indian Express

• In March 2024, Sunil Pal, a comedian and actor, publicly criticised the promo video of ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ and alleged that it contained inappropriate language. ^[12]The Times of India

• In July 2025, he and his wife, Ginni, established Kap’s Cafe in Surrey, Canada.

  

• In the same month, a few days after the cafe’s inauguration, Khalistani terrorists belonging to the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) Ultra group attacked the cafe and fired several rounds of bullets on it.
