• Antara Mitra was born and brought up in a middle-class Bengali family in Maslandapur, West Bengal.

  

• She started practising singing with her father at a very young age.

  

• While growing up, she wanted to become a doctor or professor.

• While she was in class 6, she participated in a school play on Ramayana for the first time.

  

• She has practised Hindustani classical music for around ten years.

• Her aunt used to work at All India Radio as a singer.

• She once attended an event organised at the Calcutta School of Music.

  

• In 2006, Antara Mitra left her medical entrance exam and came to Mumbai from Kolkata to audition for Indian Idol Season 2. She got selected and gained immense popularity with the show.

• After being eliminated from Indian Idol season 2, the Indian musician Anu Malik offered her to work as a folk singer.

• At the age of 18, she participated as a contestant in a National TV show.
