Some Lesser Known Facts About Komal Zanzad

• Komal Zanzad is an Indian cricketer, who plays for the Indian women’s national cricket team primarily as a bowler. On 13 February 2023, Komal was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 25 lakhs during the auctions of the inaugural Women’s Premier League.

• She grew up in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

  

• Komal was an average student in her school and college days.

• Growing up, Komal used to watch the boys playing cricket in her locality. Soon, she formed a fondness for the sport and started playing gully cricket with the boys in her locality.

• Komal broke many window panes of her house and her neighbors’ houses while playing cricket.

• While playing cricket, she started enjoying pace bowling and enrolled herself at a summer camp at Shree Binzani City College ground when she was 13 years old. At the camp, she was the only girl and was trained by coach Dalvi.

• Later, she started practicing under Baba Rocque at Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) ground.

• Komal has also trained at Mujumdar ground for some time.

• Komal performed exceedingly well at a One-Day tournament organized by the Vidarbha Women’s Cricket Association (VWCA) and made her place in the VCA camp. At the camp, she was trained by professional coaches, trainers, and dieticians, which improved her overall worth and cricketing acumen.

• When she was 15 years old, she made her debut for Vidarbha women’s cricket team.

• Komal hogged limelight after pulling nine wickets for eight runs in the 2018–19 Senior Women’s One Day League match against Haryana. The match was won by Vidarbha Women who dismissed Haryana Women for 31 runs in 18.4 overs. It proved to be a career turning point for Zanzad.

• By giving great performance in the 2018–19 Senior Women’s One Day League, Komal secured a place for herself in the India Red squad for the 2018–19 Senior Women’s Challenger Trophy.

• Komal has given several match-winning performances against tough domestic sides like Punjab Women and Andhra Pradesh Women.

• In 2019, Komal played for Indian Board President’s Women’s XI side against England during a 50 overs warm-up match. In the match, she made 3 dismissals after giving fourteen runs in seven overs. After seeing her performance in the match, the Indian selectors named her in India’s Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) squad for their series against England in February 2019; she became one of the two players from Vidarbha women to be selected for the national team. The other player was Bharti Fulmali.

• Komal has played several matches for IPL Velocity in the Women’s T20 Challenge.

  I cannot recall any particular time that made me fall in love with the sport. It was always there, from day one. I always enjoyed bowling rather than batting. Watching the stumps cartwheel and to intimidate batters was a sight I always craved for.”
