• Dilip Joshi is a popular Indian actor and theatre artist. He is famous for playing Jethalal Champaklal Gada in SAB TV’s sitcom ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ (2008).

• In an interview, he shared that his father loved the Indian actor Dilip Kumar and kept his name Dilip Joshi. ^[9]YouTube – Mashable India

• When he was 12 years old, he joined the theatre group Little Theatre Academy of Namdev Lahute and started performing in Gujarati theatre plays. He has appeared in various Gujarati theatre plays like Bapu Tame Kamaal Kari and Jalsa Karo Jayantilal (along with Disha Vakani).

  

• While he was in class 12, he failed the final exams as his focus was on theatre plays. He used to perform in various inter-college acting competitions and has won many awards in them.

• Later, he performed in various theatre plays at Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai. At that time, he used to earn only Rs 50. ^[10]The Times of India

• In his younger days, he enjoyed playing cricket and has played in Young National Cricket Club as a batsman.

  

• In 1985, he started a travel agency company in Mumbai. However, in 1990, he shut down the company as he thought his life had become monotonous.

• Dilip has acted in many Hindi TV serials such as ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ (1994; Zee TV), ‘Kabhi Yeh Kabhi Woh’ (1995; DD Metro), ‘Rishtey – The Love Stories’ (2001; Zee TV), ‘Hum Sab Baraati’ (2004; Zee TV), and ‘F.I.R.’ (2007; SAB).

  

• In 1997, he played the role of Rangaswami in the Zee Marathi TV serial ‘Kya Baat Hai.’

• In 2007, he was out of work, he then received an offer from the TV show Comedy Circus, but he did not like the content of the show, so he rejected the offer. Within a month, he received an offer of ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.’ ^[12]YouTube – Mashable India

• He gained immense popularity with the 2008 Hindi sitcom ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ as Jethalal Champaklal Gada.

• Initially, he was unsure about his character as Jethalal because the original magazine character was a slim man, but within a few weeks of the serial, his character started gaining popularity.

  

• In 2008, he joined the Indian spiritual organisation BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha.

• He has been featured in various TV commercials such as Kayam Churan, N Mart Retails, Tirupati Tiles Adhesive, Hajmola, and Imperial Blue Rose.

• In his leisure time, he enjoys travelling, going on road trips, and listening to music.
