Some Lesser Known Facts About Vikramaditya Singh

• Vikramaditya Singh is an Indian politician and member of the Indian National Congress. He is the son of Virbhadra Singh, who held the post of Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister six times, and his second wife, Pratibha Singh. In December 2022, he came into the headlines after his wife, Sudarshana Chundawat, filed a case against him and accused him and his mother of domestic violence.

• Vikramaditya’s father, Virbhadra Singh, was a politician and a member of the Indian National Congress (INC). On 8 July 2021, at the age of 87, Virbhadra breathed his last after suffering from multi-organ failure at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla. Her mother, Pratibha Singh, a member of the Indian National Congress, who served as the MP (member of parliament) from the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency, was appointed as the Chief of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee on 26 April 2022.

• Vikramaditya has a pet dog, Mr Coco, and he often shares pictures of his pet on various social media platforms.

  

• Vikramaditya is a fitness enthusiast, and he workouts regularly to keep himself healthy and fit.

  

• During his school days, Vikramaditya actively participated in several rifle shooting competitions and even represented his state at the national level. He won a bronze medal at the Rifle and Trap shooting Competition in 2007.

• In 2011, Vikramaditya contested and won the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress presidential elections, but the Foundation for Advanced Management of Elections (FAME) declared the elections as null and void because Vikramaditya was found breaching the Model Code of Conduct, and subsequently he was barred from re-contesting the 2012 presidential elections. • Vikramaditya was appointed as the president of the Himachal Pradesh State Rifle Association on 13 October 2013, and he also served as a member of the National Rifle Association.

• In 2015, Vikramaditya was appointed as the director of the Himachal Vikas Nigam.

• In 2017, Vikramaditya Singh became the first member of the legislative assembly to be elected from the Shimla rural constituency in Himachal Pradesh. ^[13]The Times of India

• In 2018, during the 13th Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly session, Vikramaditya and his father, Virbhadra Singh, took oath as members from the Shimla Rural constituency and Arki Assembly constituency respectively, which was the first time in Himachal Pradesh’s history that a father and son took the oath together in the same assembly session.

• In October 2018, Vikramaditya and Sudarshana got engaged in Udaipur. Sudarshana, daughter of Thakur Dheer Singh, hailed from the royal family of Amet in Rajasthan. However, the couple separated after a few months of marriage.

• Vikramaditya was appointed as the general secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee in February 2019.

• Virbhadra Singh, the father of Vikramaditya Singh, became the 122nd titular Maharaja of Bushahr in 1947, at the age of 13, after the demise of his father Raja Padam Singh. Two days after Virbadhra Singh’s demise, on 10 July 2021, Vikramaditya was crowned as the titular “Raja Sahib” of the erstwhile princely state of Bushahr after the Raj Tilak ceremony (Coronation ceremony; a tradition to crown the king/ruler, who would carry forward the family’s legacy), which was held at the Padam Palace in Rampur. The ceremony signified that all the duties earlier performed by his father would now be performed by his heir, Vikramaditya. At first, he was hesitant of performing the ceremony because he believed that Indian democracy doesn’t entertain such titles, but after his family members persuaded him, Vikramaditya obliged and agreed to perform it. ^[14]The Tribune
