Some Lesser Known Facts About Tulsi Ramsay

• Tulsi Ramsay (1941-2018) was an Indian director and producer who is known for directing Bollywood films of the horror genre. He is popularly known as one of the famous seven Ramsay brothers.

• Tulsi Ramsay’s family hailed from Karachi. Reportedly, after the Partition of India, his family moved to Bombay (now Mumbai). ^[3]Mid-Day

• According to some media outlets, Ramsay’s original surname used to be ‘Ramsinghanis.’ The Ramsays changed it to ‘Ramsay’ so that it could be pronounced easily. ^[4]Mid-Day

• As per sources, the Ramsay family used to reside at a residence on Lamington Road in Mumbai, where the ground floor consisted of the office of their production house, Ramsay Films, and the other two floors above it were kept for themselves to live. ^[5]Mid-Day

  

• In an interview, Tulsi Ramsay’s niece, Alisha Kirpilani, revealed that the first picture directed by Tulsi Ramsay, along with his brother Shyam Ramsay, was a Sindhi horror film ‘Naqli Shaan.’ ^[6]Mid-Day

• Reportedly, he ran a production company, Tulsi Ramsay Production, located in Andheri, Mumbai.

• In an interview, Tulsi Ramsay revealed that he, along with his team, accidentally dug up a dead body while they were shooting for the film ‘Do Gaz Zameen Ke Neeche’ in 1971. Tulsi added that he had some strange experiences during the shoot of the film. He said that he once heard someone breathing heavily and the sound of footsteps following him while he was alone at the location of the shoot at 2:30 am. He rushed to the guest house, which was a kilometre away from the location, and realised that it was him who was breathing heavily and the sound of footsteps was coming from his footwear’s loose soles. ^[7]The Times of India
