• Sanjay Gadhvi was an Indian film director and writer known for his work in the Hindi film industry. He passed away on 19 November 2023 due to a heart attack.

• He wanted to become a filmmaker since childhood.

• After assisting Anant Balani on the film ‘Patthar Ke Phool’ (1991), he continued to work as his assistant director for two more films.

• His first directorial venture was the film ‘Tu Hi Bataa,’ featuring Arjun Rampal and Raveena Tandon. However, the film was not released due to some budgetary issues.

• Gadhvi’s directorial debut film ‘Tere Liye’ (2000) did not succeed at the box office.

• In 2002, he directed the Hindi film ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai,’ starring Jimmy Sheirgill and Uday Chopra.

  

• He became a household name after directing the first two films of the ‘Dhoom’ series, ‘Dhoom’ (2004) and ‘Dhoom: 2’ (2006).

  

• However, he later parted ways with the production company for the second sequel of the film i.e., ‘Dhoom: 3.’ In an interview, he talked about it and said,
  

  I am trying to do every kind of movie because the process by itself is so much fun. Every film makes you know yourself better so why repeat? If that was the idea, I would have made Dhoom 3. I wanted to move on and explore something else.”

• In 2008, he worked as a director and dialogue writer for the film ‘Kidnap.’

• In 2012, he directed the Jackky Bhagnani starrer film ‘Ajab Gazabb Love.’

  

• In addition to his filmmaking pursuits, he also ventured into acting. He appeared alongside Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal in the ‘Patel Ki Punjabi Shaddi’ (2017). He played the role of Balvinder Tondon in the film.

• His last film, ‘Operation Parindey,’ was streamed on the OTT platform ZEE5 in 2020.

  

• Apart from working for films, he used to organise masterclasses and workshops on filmmaking.

  

• In an interview, he disclosed that he and Kumar Mangalam Birla, a well-known industrialist, were classmates, and Vivek Vaswani, an actor and filmmaker, was his senior in school.

• In an interview, he revealed that during his college days, he had a strong desire to purchase a motorbike. He shared that he was so passionate about buying a bike that he used to doodle ‘Yamaha’ on the back of his college notebooks. He later fulfilled his dream by persuading his mother to withdraw money from a fixed deposit and borrowing Rs 9,000 from a friend to buy a Yamaha RX100.

• He was often observed consuming alcohol on numerous occasions.

  

• On 19 November 2023, the filmmaker passed away due to a heart attack. Reportedly, he experienced the heart attack during his morning walk in Lokhandwala, where he felt chest pain. He was immediately taken to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
