Some Lesser Known Facts About Chitra Wagh

• Chitra Wagh is an Indian politician who is known for being appointed as the president of BJP’s women’s wing ‘Maharashtra Pradesh Mahila Morcha’ on 3 November 2022.

• In 2015, when she was part of the Nationalist Congress Party, she stated that the women in rural areas were unsafe and were not treated properly in the police stations under the BJP-Shiv Sena regime.

• In October 2020, Chitra came forward in support of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi who went to UP to meet the family of the girl who was raped in Hathras. While she was going, Priyanka was held by her Kutra by a police officer who tried to stop her from meeting the victim’s family. In a tweet, Chitra asked the UP government to take strict action against the police officer and wrote,
  

  How dare the male police put their hands on the clothes of a female leader. If women are coming forward in support, then wherever the police may be, they must take care of their dignity. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who believes in Indian culture, should take strict action against such policemen.”

• In February 2021, a case under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against Chitra’s husband, Kishor. In the investigation, it was found that 90.24 per cent of Jagannath’s assets were disproportionate to his income. In 2016, a bribery case was registered against Kishor who worked as a librarian at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital. In February 2017, an open investigation started against him and his house was raided. After the FIR, BJP leader Praveen Darekar alleged that the Maha Vikas Aghadi government was accusing Kishor because his wife Chitra was raising her voice against the state Forest Minister and Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Rathod in the suicide case of Deepali Chavan. ^[7]Amar Ujala

• In March 2022, she criticized the government’s decision to use models of male and female reproductive organs in the family planning counselling kit provided to the Asa workers. The Asha workers said they felt uncomfortable while carrying them during the counselling.

• On 14 March 2022, she criticized the Maha Vikas Agaadi government for not ensuring the safety of a mother and her three daughters who were sexually abused and were asked to change their religion. In an interview, she talked about this and said,
  

  It is really sad and shocking that some ‘Baba’ has dared to do the act. The woman and her daughter come from an educated family and still exploited by this man. This has to stop. I would stand by these women and bring justice for them if police fail to act.”

• In December 2022, she questioned the government about the vehicles in Nirbhaya funds. In a press conference, she said that the 220 vehicles were purchased from Nirbhaya funds, but only 121 were provided to the police station. The remaining 99 vehicles were given to other women’s safety departments. She alleged that the vehicles were used by the government for their own use.
